…and I’m still waiting on various bits of information before updating the calendar. Soon!

Snark and awe
-

I was going to title this post “End of Summer,” but every day in August has hit over 100°F, and there’s no change for the near future. It’s kind of awful.
Anyway, things only seem quiet right now. There are lots of dates and plans just coming together, and new announcements to be made soon.
I’ve been meaning to do this for ages, and I’ve finally gotten around to it. Two-tone!
There are a couple of ways to go with this. The Odessa angle: after all, it is the start of football season. The Nesmith angle: two-tone, full grown, and a dedicated friend of mine. The accessorizing angle: you want neutral colors, I got your neutral colors! Check out the listings on Etsy for as long as they last!
So, here’s something I’ve been doing this week – dyeing new thread! As usual, I got some predictable results and some unpredictable. Turquoise (bottom right) is always reliable. But see that gold one? Right under the green one? Same dyebath. The green one is cotton thread, the gold one is silk thread. You can see the cotton tie-offs in green against the gold thread. Both are pretty. Heck, all of is is pretty! Can’t wait to get started!
I’m going to be a vendor at the International Quilt Festival in Houston this November! I am terribly excited (and a little frightened) to be there! I love attending every year, and I’ve been working on the process of becoming an exhibitor/vendor for a while. I sent in my deposit, so I think it’s safe to talk about it now! Many thanks to friends and colleagues who have helped me get there, and who are going to help me at my booth.
It’s not quite summer yet, but it’s starting to feel like it!
I have three events this month. First up is the fabulous First Saturday Arts Market in the Heights. You can always find a huge variety of beautiful work by local artists here. I won’t be at the June market, so catch me this Saturday!
In the middle of the month, I will be at the TAID (Texas Association for Interior Design) annual Art Gala, held at Skyline Art Services. This evening of art and music benefits TAID, a not for profit 501(c)6.
And over Memorial Day weekend, I will make my first appearance at the Official Texas Arts & Crafts Fair. It’s the 40th Anniversary of this wonderful event, held in Kerrville by the Texas Arts & Crafts Educational Foundation, Inc., a not for profit organization, to promote appreciation of fine arts and craft skills and create educational opportunities in the visual and creative arts in the State of Texas. If you’re in Kerrville over Memorial Day weekend, take a break from the Folk Festival music and come see some art!
See you soon!

Photography has been done. Editing has been done. Posting has been done. Huzzah, new jewelry in the Etsy shop! (Click on the photo to embiggen, and click again to blowupify even more.)
In the last few months, I’ve been mulling over options large and small, including wholesaling. There’s lots of navel-gazing and dithering, and I decided it would make for boring reading, so I haven’t shared it. Nothing is changing in the short-term. I have my Texas dates, mostly in Houston, and I still need to photograph my newest pieces.
And just because I haven’t posted a photo in a while, here’s a photo. I recently acquired a throw pillow with a frog tapestry fabric, and it’s just my new favorite thing. Makes me smile every time I look at it!
Winter is over, and Spring is here! There are a number of McCord Works events in April and May, including some new-to-me festivals!
First Saturday Arts Market is Houston’s longest running monthly outdoor fine arts event. And it’s my home! Featuring local and regional artists whose offerings include original paintings, photography, jewelry, sculpture, wood and metal arts, ceramics and fiber arts.
The CityCentre 2011 Spring Market takes place in West Houston. CityCentre is a vibrant, self-contained, pedestrian community of sophisticated retail, elegant dining, luxurious living and so much more.
The TAID (Texas Association for Interior Design) annual Art Gala, held at Skyline Art Services, benefits the TAID organization, a not for profit 501(c)6.
Finally, I am very honored to have been chosen for the Official Texas Arts & Crafts Fair. It’s an annual event held in Kerrville by the Texas Arts & Crafts Educational Foundation, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, to promote appreciation of fine arts and craft skills and create educational opportunities in the visual and creative arts in the State of Texas.
